Open Steel Flooring & Durbar Case Study
Set up by the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Serpentine Gallery annually commissions internationally renowned architects to design a pavilion on the Gallery lawn. One such pavilion was constructed using Gratings and Flooring from F H Brundle.
It was co-designed by Pritzker Prizewinning architect Rem Koolhaas and innovative structural designer Cecil Balmond. The centrepiece was a spectacular ovoid-shaped inflatable canopy that floated above the Gallery's lawn. Cecil Balmond said: "These pavilions have evolved with various structural typologies and materials, provoking a debate on architecture; this year the exploration continues not only with typology and material but with the very definition of Pavilion." Gratings and flooring from F H Brundle complemented the design and maintained its architectural integrity.
Industrial gratings have many different applications, which combine great strength with a light structure and good non-slip properties. They are available in plain or galvanised steel and are ideal for use on platforms, galleries, gangways, storage floors, etc. We also stock a full range of open steel flooring available with standard mesh and 25 or 35mm ball proof gratings and are ideal for walkways, raised floors and platforms. The standard size of these planks is 6m x 1m but these can be fabricated to specific requirements. All panels are manufactured from mild steel to BS EN 100025-1 S275 JR and can be cut or shaped to your requirements.
Durbar sheets with a raised pattern feature, they are used where a non-slip surface with excellent draining characteristics is required, which makes it easy to clean, reduce corrosion and provides durability. As a result, Durbar sheets can be used for many applications including: stairs and walkways, steps and safety platforms, bridges, commercial vehicles, containers, lifts, offshore installations and shipbuilding, cladding and protective barriers.
