Project Brief

The homeowner had recently completed a raised patio installation and required a glass balustrade to ensure safety while maintaining a modern, open appearance. The key requirements were:

– No top handrail
– Clear, uninterrupted views
– A budget-friendly alternative to frameless systems

Due to a fall height exceeding 600mm, the balustrade required either a handrail or laminated safety glass.

Technical Challenge

The client opted for 11.5mm laminated glass, thereby avoiding having to use a handrail. Standard F.H.Brundle posts are typically supplied for monolithic glass, so a solution was required to ensure compatibility with laminated glass.

Solution

After consultation with the F.H.Brundle technical team, a simple and effective solution was identified:

– Use standard F.H.Brundle balustrade posts
– Upgrade the rubber gaskets to versions designed for 11.5mm laminated glass

These upgraded rubbers were available from stock and dispatched immediately.

Installation & Delivery

The posts and upgraded rubbers were delivered next working day. Once installed, final measurements were taken and the laminated glass panels were supplied and fitted within one week.

The system installed smoothly with no on-site modifications required.
