6 reasons why our new Newport home is already proving a hit with South Wales customers

When you have been supplying steel, handrailing, mesh and fencing products for more than a century, you learn when it is time to invest for the future.

That’s exactly why we relocated our Wales branch to a brand-new, purpose-built facility in Rogerstone, Newport, which joins our impressive logistics network of eight strategic locations and supported by a fleet of over 80 branded vehicles to ensure reliable nationwide delivery.

Our previous Cardiff depot served us well. Yet it was tucked away and no longer reflected the scale of our offer or the needs of our growing customer base across South Wales and up to Hereford. The new 40,000 sq ft site gives us the space, visibility and infrastructure required to support fabricators, builders, landscapers and homeowners more effectively.

Branch Manager Rebecca Gilchrist, who joined us with a strong steel industry background, has already seen the difference.

Below, we explore six reasons why our new Newport home is proving so popular.

1.  Location

Location was a decisive factor in the move. Positioned just off the A467 and only minutes from the M4 and A48, the Newport branch is ideally placed for customers travelling from Cardiff, the Valleys, Bristol and beyond. It also strengthens our daily delivery routes across South Wales and up to Hereford.

“Location was really important for us,” said Rebecca. “The Cardiff site served us well for several years, but it was tucked away and not ideal for our growing customer base. Now, we’re a couple of minutes from the M4 and the major link roads. It makes it really easy for customers to find us.”

“Being on the edge of Newport and so close to the motorway helps not just our drivers, but customers coming in to collect. It’s absolutely perfect for servicing South Wales.”

2.  More stock on site

The most visible change is scale. We have moved from 6,000 sq ft in Cardiff to 40,000 sq ft in Newport. That increase in space has a direct impact on availability.

Thousands of our fastest moving products are now stocked on the ground in Newport, with the profile adapting daily to reflect local demand. Across the business, we supply roughly 12,500 product lines, from structural steel sections and mesh to balustrades and GRP flooring.

“Just on the ground we have an awful lot more stock,” said Rebecca. “It makes things easily accessible for the customer. A quicker turnaround, speedy delivery, and quick collection.”

3.  Cutting facilities

Need steel cut to size the same day? Our new Newport branch includes dedicated on-site steel cutting facilities. This allows customers to order beams and heavy steel lengths and, in many cases, collect them the same day.

“We’ve got cutting facilities on site now,” Rebecca explained. “If you want something cut, you can come and collect that same day most of the time.”

For fabricators and construction professionals, this reduces the need for additional handling on site and helps keep projects moving.

4.  Showroom

The Newport facility includes a fully functioning, dual-floor showroom with multimedia displays. Customers can see, handle and compare products before buying.

From stainless steel balustrades to fencing systems and decking components, much of our range is on display.

Rebecca said: “Customers absolutely love the showroom and the fact that they can see products up close; it makes a real difference. It also showcases the wide range of stock that we have, and a lot of customers who come in are surprised when they see our full range and what else we supply.

5.  Experienced staff you can speak to face-to-face

A modern facility is important. So is the knowledge behind the counter.

Our Newport branch is supported by a team with varied industry backgrounds, including steel, metal and builders’ merchants. That collective experience allows us to provide practical advice, not just product codes.

“There’s a lot of knowledge here,” Rebecca said. “We’ve all come from slightly different backgrounds, so we’ve got different levels of expertise across the range. It’s nice for people to come in, have a coffee, and meet the people they’ve spoken to on the phone or by email. It makes it more personal.”

6. Customer service – trade counter and click and collect

Speed and simplicity remain central to our offer. The Newport branch features a fully operational trade counter so customers can:

  • Walk in and order at the counter
  • Call ahead for collection
  • Order and pay online using click and collect
  • Collect within the hour if stock is available
  • Benefit from free delivery on orders over £150

Rebecca said: “We’ve always been known for a quick turnaround, fast service and fast delivery. Newport, with more stock on the ground, makes that even easier, and we’ve also got a new app launching soon which will help customers further.

“There is no minimum order value and no trade account required, and that flexibility supports everyone from large-scale fabricators to homeowners tackling a one-off project.”

Built for the future of South Wales

The move to Newport is more than a change of address. It is a long-term investment in our customers across South Wales and the South West.

“Since we opened in October, we’ve seen a huge increase in footfall coming into branch and visitors have been hugely complimentary on the new facility,” added Rebecca. “With us being on the South Welsh coast, there’s an awful lot of very nice properties on the coastline and our fastest moving product in branch is stainless steel balustrades.”
