Adjustable Pedestals & Cradles
Decking & Paving Supports from 10mm to 975mm
F.H.Brundle’s adjustable pedestals and supports give contractors, architects and landscapers a fast, flexible foundation for any raised deck, paving or flooring. Covering heights from 10mm (cradle) to 975mm using just four core components, our pedestal system — also known as decking risers or decking feet — suit porcelain tiles, timber joists, aluminium framing and even industrial flooring. Self-levelling heads correct slopes up to ±5°, anti-unscrewing safety blocks prevent movement, and a rubber-coated head reduces noise transmission. Whatever the substrate, this system delivers a level, professional result every time.

Adjustable Cradle for Low-Profile Decking (10–40mm)

Adjustable Pedestal Overview
By using 4 simple components, you can achieve pedestal heights from as low as 23mm, up to 405mm. If you need to go higher, then by using the 220mm extender, you can achieve heights of up to 975mm.

Self-levelling heads
Offering a -5 / +5º adjustment
Achieve a perfectly flat surface on slopes and rough ground.
Anti-noise / anti-slip rubber head (Ø 115mm).

Self-Levelling Lock
Turn your adjustable pedestal into a fixed head pedestal by pressing in the self-levelling lock.

35mm High Extension Pad
Extend the pedestal height above the height range indicated in the table.
Stackable to a maximum of four high.
Three Self-Levelling Head Options
Offering a -5 / +5 degree adjustment, you can achieve a perfectly flat surface on slopes and rough ground. All three types of self-levelling head come with an anti-noise / anti-slip rubber head.
Decking pedestals are used to raise and level decking substructures, allowing decks to be installed on uneven surfaces such as terraces, balconies and roof spaces.
Adjustable pedestals can support timber, aluminium and composite joist systems.
Spacing depends on the decking system used, but pedestals are typically installed every 400–600mm along the joists.
Pedestal systems are commonly used for roof terraces because they protect roof membranes while creating a stable decking surface.
Height adjustment is from the base of pedestal to the flat surface of the adjustable head.
Connecting Rod & Collar
When the adjustable pedestal height reaches 800mm or more, the connecting rod can be used to stabilise the system by connecting it directly onto the big fixing collar (as shown below).

Using the Porcelain Tile Head
Simply remove the tabs as required for the number of the tiles being used.

Using Pedestals Against Straight Edges
For ease of use, these pedestals can be cut to fit flush to a straight edge, creating a perfect finish for your deck.

Adjustable Pedestal System Installation Guide
Easy Setup, Secure Locking & Flexible Height Adjustment
Our adjustable pedestal system is designed for precision, durability, and ease of installation. Whether you’re working on decking, paving, or raised flooring, follow this step-by-step guide to achieve a secure and professional finish.
Pedestal Adjustment Mechanism
- The pedestal base features a clockwise thread for unwinding.
- All other sections operate with an anti-clockwise rotation.
- Locking sections function in the opposite direction, meaning you wind down to securely lock each component in place.
This dual-direction system ensures maximum stability and prevents accidental loosening.
How to Separate the Base and Winder
Follow these steps to safely undo and split the pedestal base:
- Release the blue locking collar.
- Unscrew the inner section until it is fully extended and locked.
- Locate the internal access hole:
• Insert a pin, screwdriver, or similar tool
• Gently press to release the locking lug
• Unwind and remove the section
Tip: Blue adjusters may initially feel tight. Use a lever for extra torque, then continue adjusting by hand.
Installing Pedestal Extenders
- Rotate the extender into position using the black grip lugs for easier handling.
- Once the desired height is reached, tighten the blue locking collar to secure it firmly.
This allows for precise height control across uneven surfaces.
Using Adjustable Support Rods
For added stability between pedestals:
- Fit the collar to the pedestal at the midpoint of the total height.
- The collar remains free-moving and does not require locking, as rods provide support.
- Adjust rods to the required length and connect between pedestals.
- Make final adjustments and tighten securely.
This system improves load distribution and structural integrity.
Installation Near Walls, Corners & Edges
When installing pedestals against walls or edges:
- The underside of the base includes a marked square cutting guide.
- Trim the base as needed to fit tight spaces.
- Ensure reinforcement fins are cut evenly and aligned for continued strength.
Ideal for perimeter installations and fascia board applications.
Why Choose Our Adjustable Pedestal System?
- Quick and simple installation
- Precision height adjustment
- Strong locking mechanism for safety
- Suitable for decking, paving, and raised flooring
- Designed for edge, wall, and corner applications
FAQs
When your pedestal height reaches 800mm or more, fit a big fixing collar (84COLLAR, Ø 230mm) around the shaft, then attach connecting rods to brace it against adjacent pedestals. Two rod sizes are available: 84RODS (adjustable 340–500mm, suits tile sizes 480–610mm) and 84RODL (adjustable 500–750mm, suits tile sizes 640–910mm). This bracing prevents lateral movement under load and is especially important on elevated roof terraces exposed to wind.
Use the porcelain tile head (84HEADPAVE). It features removable spacer tabs to accommodate tiles of different sizes, and is designed for use with the adjustment key (84KEY) — allowing you to fine-tune the pedestal height without lifting heavy tiles. Simply insert the key from the side and rotate to raise or lower the head. For aluminium joist systems, choose 84HEADOUTDURE; for timber joists, choose 84HEADJOIST.
A cradle supports a joist across two contact points and is designed for very low-profile applications — starting at just 10mm. It is ideal for patio overlays and renovation projects where minimal build-up height is critical. A pedestal is a single-column support that carries the load on a central head, with height adjustment from 23mm up to 975mm (and beyond with extension pads). Both use self-levelling heads and are compatible with the same range of surface types.
Yes, asll long as the terrace or balcony is below 11m (where fire-rated systems come in to play) — the 200mm base diameter distributes weight effectively across roof membranes without piercing them, and the optional rubber base pad (84BASE, 3mm thick, 230mm diameter) provides additional protection against vibration and noise. The system is suitable for both domestic balconies and commercial roof terraces. For pedestals at heights of 800mm or above, use connecting rods (84RODS or 84RODL) with a big fixing collar (84COLLAR) for added stability.
Yes. All self-levelling heads offer ±5° slope correction as standard, allowing you to achieve a perfectly level deck or paved surface without shimming or packing. Simply set the pedestal to the correct height and the head automatically compensates for the incline. If you need to lock the head permanently at a fixed angle, press in the self-levelling lock (84LOCK) to convert it to a fixed-head pedestal.
The adjustable cradle (84ADC1040) supports decking from just 10mm — making it ideal for low-profile patio overlays, balcony renovations, and situations where clearance is limited. For standard adjustable pedestals, the minimum height starts at 23mm (25–33mm range, code 84PED33). Heights are always measured from the base of the pedestal to the flat surface of the adjustable head.
