For residential external applications (balconies, terraces, raised decking), 17.5mm laminated toughened glass is the standard minimum. For commercial applications or panels with spans over 1,000mm, 21.5mm laminated toughened is typically required. The glass must be laminated (not just toughened) in frameless structural applications, so that a broken panel retains its shape and continues to provide a barrier.
