Under BS 6180 and Approved Document K, standard domestic balustrades with a handrail typically require 10mm or 12mm toughened glass. Frameless glass balustrades without a continuous handrail usually require 17.5mm or 21.5mm toughened laminated glass. Commercial applications with higher line load requirements (e.g., 1.5 kN/m or 3.0 kN/m) require thicker laminated glass configurations.
